A licensed independent clinical social worker, Scott has been a thrapist, supervisor, consultant and educator in many clinical and community-based programs. He maintains a private psychotherapy practise specializing in sexual and gender issues, relationship issues, trauma response, general anxiety & depression, and clinical hypnosis. CURRENT POSITIONS: Psychotherapist in Independent Practice, 711 W. Lake Street, Suite 413, Minneapolis, MN. (1988 to present on part-time basis) Provision of psychotherapy to individuals and couples. Practice focused on adults with a range of problems, but includes work with sexuality and gender issues. Through this practice Scott also provide can consultation and training to a wide range of groups and organizations on topics such as gender and sexual identity issues, dealing with trauma, and many other issues. He also provides Clinical Supervision for those requiring supervision for licensure or in connection with a disciplinary action or employment-related requirement. Group Leader/Consultant, Program in Human Sexuality, University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, MN (August 1974 to present on a consultative basis) Provided consultant and group leadership for Sexual Attitude Reassessment (SAR) weekends, Man-to-Man/500 Man and Week of Enrichment seminars, Gender Disorder seminars, and gave special topic lectures. Helped develop programs such as Advanced SARs and trained social workers, physicians, and other professionals in sexual history interviewing techniques. PAST POSITIONS: Coordinator of Consultation & Training, Walk-In Counseling Center, Minneapolis, MN (Nov. 2001 to March 2006 on half time basis). This position involved provision of consultation to a broad range of community groups and organziation and teh supervision of interns as regards consultation & training. This also involved the supervision of social work field placement students in all of their activities. Of the manyh projects were assessment and boundaries coaching for impaired professionals referred by licensing boards or employers, work on providing outreach to families and veterans of the Gulf Wars, and advice to regulatory boards. In addition, for two years Scott was the main trainer regarding training mainstream health care providers how to respond to Somalis who are experiencing a mental health crisis or at risk of suicide. (August 1995 to Nov. 2001) Worked with diverse adult clients, focusing on sexual identity, gender, and abuse issues at this United Way funded family service agency. Helped create special outreach programs, provided staff training, supervised interns, provided in-home therapy for PWAs. Psychotherapist/Supervisor, Family Service Inc., St. Paul, MN. (August 1988 to August 1995) Supervised sexuality and abuse programs doing individual, couple, family and group therapy. This included phone screening, intake/assessment interviews, public education, and court liaison work. Helped start satellite programs in outlying areas. Clinical Quality Coordinator with the responsibility to supervise therapists, interns, and volunteers to bring charting system in compliance with FSA/COA standards. Coordinated peer reviews, chart audits, and led Multi-Disciplinary Team meetings in compliance with Rule 29 requirements for a mental health clinic. Psychiatric Social Worker, Metropolitan-Mt. Sinai Medical Center, Minneapolis, MN. (January 1987 to July 1988) This was a major private medical center located in downtown Minneapolis. Working in both open and locked Mental Health Units, and the Chemical Dependency Unit, provided intake screening, family assessment, brief family and individual therapy, and discharge planning. Provided input to multidisciplinary care conferences and discharge planning for linkage to Rule 36 facilities and other community resources. Provided consultation on sexuality issues as needed. Served as Chair of Inservice Committee and the hospital-wide AIDS Education Committee. Served on the Quality Assurance Committee. Also served as on-call counselor for Employee Assistance Program. Prevention Counselor, Red Door & Room 111 Clinics, Minneapolis, MN (July 1987 to July 1988) These are AIDS and STD clinics. Provided pre- and post-HIV-test counseling on an on-call basis. Counselor/Case Manager, Sharing Life in the Community (SLIC), St. Paul, MN (May 1985 to January 1987) Providing special case management, on a contractual basis, for serious and persistently mentally ill clients lving in the community, or in transition from residentail (Rule 36) facilities. This included counseling and group facilitation, resource referral, and advocacy. Psychiatric Social Worker/Group Therapy Supervisor, Fairview Southdale Hospital, Edina, MN (November 1983 to February 1985) (Similar Duties to Metropolitan Mt. Sinai Medical Center above.) provision of direct services, led group therapy, supervised other staff and interns, etc. Also supervised the Day Program. Phone Counselor, Employee Assistance Resource (EAR), Control Data Corporation, Bloomington, MN (November 1983 to June 1984) Provided crisis counseling and referrals to callers from corporations across the United States. Community Education Coordinator, the Men's Center, Minneapolis, MN (June 1978 to January 1979) Opened the first office for the Men's Center and developed support group program, community education, etc. around men's issues. The Men’s Center is a community – based not-for-profit organization which has the mission of developing services aimed at helping men with a variety of problems and issues. After this position ended continued to provide some services as a volunteer and board member, and these continuing activities are referenced under Volunteeer Activities and Awards and Honors as detailed below. Social Work Intern, Walk-In Counseling Center, Minneapolis, MN (Sept. 1977 to June 1978) Provided brief and medium term therapy to varied clientele in an outpatient setting (www.walkin.org) Presented inservices and did presentations and consultation to other community agencies and programs. Produced training videotapes and a "Brief Directory of Men’s Services" Social Work Intern, Project Remand, St. Paul, MN (1976 to 1977) This is a court diversion program for those who have committed first time misdemeanors. Screened clients, created program plans, and regularly testified in court concerning the clients. Prior to completing MSW had positions as a Psychiatric Assistant at hospitals in Minnesota & California, as well as a variety of other jobs. Gay and Lesbian Community Services, Minneapolis, MN (1973 to 1984), Volunteer phone advocate, counselor, and group facilitator.
