Counseling Services

Skilled and caring

Last year 136 volunteer professionals and 24 receptionists contributed their time to counsel Walk-In clients. Working in teams led by a supervisor and supported by a receptionist, 70 volunteers are active every month. They represent the heart and soul of Walk-In. They are what make Walk-In services unique and helpful to those with urgent needs.

Walk-In’s volunteers and supervisors are credentialed, experienced mental health professionals. They are psychologists, clinical social workers, professional counselors and psychiatric nurses who give generously of their time and skills to help those with urgent needs. Volunteers are not paid, and many of them have been with Walk-In for years.

Minimally, counselors have advanced degrees and supervised experience in counseling or psychotherapy. In addition, supervisors have the experience required of counselors and also have supervisory experience or have completed Walk-In’s Supervisory Training Program.
