Be a lamp, or a lifeboat, or a ladder.
Help someone`s soul heal.
#3090 Jalaluddin Rumi (Sufi poet in the 1500’s)
To say the least, these are difficult times.
If you’re doing o.k., you are also probably acutely aware that so many others are not.
If you or a loved one are experiencing the loss of job, home, insurance, assurance and hope, each new day can bring new worry.
The quote above helps me think about both.
At Walk-In we offer a lamp, a lifeboat or a ladder. . . whatever metaphor works, it’s what we do.
In so doing, we help heal the souls of people who come here.
Sometimes we heal our own.
I think it’s important for us all to remember that personal crises are not just about the “other guy”, the people who are socially and economically marginal. Personal crises can happen to any of us at any time. . . or to our loved ones, neighbors, friends, colleagues. Our “status” doesn’t matter much when it comes to heartache and emotional pain.
It’s also helpful to remember that even when in our own pain, it can sometimes be healing to reach out to others in their pain.
We can all be. . . a lamp, a lifeboat, a ladder, and help someone’s soul heal.
